In 1997, I graduated from Boğaziçi University Civil Engineering with a Bachelor’s Degree (BEng). During my undergraduate education, I had the opportunity to work in the Digital Editing and Mastering department at Raks Marsandiz Studios (RMS) with Duyal Karagözoğlu and at Erekli-Tunç Studios with Rıza Erekli.
Between 1997 and 1999, I studied audio engineering at the School of Audio Engineering Institute London (SAE London), one of the most respected institutions in this subject. Here I graduated with the highest degree.
After two years of study in London, I returned to Istanbul in 1999. Upon my return, I took the full responsibility of live sound engineering at Şebnem Ferah’s public concerts from August 1999 to August 2003. In addition to live concert sound engineering, I also took part in the recording and mixing of Sezen Aksu’s “Sarı Odalar Single”, Kudsi Erguner’s “Les Passions D’istanbul” and Dağhan Baydur, Erdal Kızılçay, and Fuat Güner’s “DEF Orchestra Beatles Turkish Alaturka” at Imaj Studio. At the start of the year 2000, I was nominated the Music Production Manager (MPM) at Universal Music Turkey. While I was here I produced Burak Kut’s “2000” and coproduced Çelik’s “Unutamam” in cooperation with the eminent producer and world wide percussionist Hossam Ramzy and with the well-known drummer Manu Katche at the Snake Ranch Studio in London. In 2001, I recorded, mixed and mastered Yavuz Çetin’s second album “Satılık”.
In early 2002, I established my own studio, the Mine Erkaya Studio, where I recorded many albums along with movie and theater music and sounds. In 2005 and 2006, I was lucky to take part in the public performances of Mor ve Ötesi in Köln, Frankfurt, Bochum, and Stuttgard as their live sound engineer.
Since September 2004, I have taught several courses including “Audio Recording Technologies”, “MIDI and Sound Technology” and “Sound Reinforcement and Concert Sound Design” at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Department of Music.
I earned my Master of Arts degree (MA) from Istanbul Technical University’s Music Business and Management program in Music in Advanced Studies (MIAM). My thesis dealt with “Digital Music Distribution Solutions for an Independent Musician”.
More recently, I have been working on a variety of projects in the music industry, as a free-lance audio engineer, and I have also been a full-time lecturer in music technology subject at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department.
